Mission
Our mission is to provide and empower communities with high quality, impactful content with an array of services that drive positive change while breaking social norms. Ganarama Productions is committed to improving communication skills through development and innovative industrial theatre via edu-tainment which is education through entertainment. Our main causes include anti-drug awareness and ending gender-based violence (GBV), while hosting transformative youth programs, tackling social provocations including racism, teenage pregnancy and beyond.
About GanaRama
GanaRama Productions was established by Gary Naidoo and Rafiek Mammon. It is a black-owned initiative fully committed to the Government’s Broad-based Economic policies. Gary Naidoo, a UCT performance graduate, shines as an actor, singer and comedian. He has performed in many live music shows such as “70’s Revolution”, “Motown Magic”, “That Crazy Little Thing 1 & 2” and “That 80’s Show”. On the theatrical front, he has graced local and international stages with two major productions, namely Taliep Petersen & David Kramer’s “Ghoema” and the acclaimed “Fire Raisers”. Rafiek Mammon, a former Cape Town Arts Editor, Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards judge and Kunstekabinet member for the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK). He is an established playwright, producer and director, who has penned several award-winning plays. His first play, ‘Seashells’ was an immense hit, winning an Ovation Award at the Grahamstown Festival in 2012. His second play, “The Garage Sale” ran to critical acclaim as the opening production of Artscape’s 10th annual Festival of New Writing in 2014. He holds a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Modern Teaching Philosophies from The University of Stellenbosch, and a BA (Social Science) degree from UCT. Gary and Rafiek also wrote and directed “Footsteps to Freedom”, which received rave reviews. They also co-wrote and co-directed “Under the Influence of Love” for the Roxy Revue Bar at GrandWest. Together they create serious and impactful entertainment productions that pack venues like Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and the prestigious Artscape centre, earning a 2011 small business pastel award finalist nomination. Their most anticipated ‘Boogie-themed’ shows that were hosted at the CTICC from 2011 to 2014 and in the Artscape Opera House from 2015. Entertaining crowds of 1500 per performance.
